Apple and the Maine Department of Education are swapping out iPads for MacBooks after a survey found that students and teachers alike favored laptops for older students. The deal means that there will be no additional cost to schools for exchanging the devices, reports the Lewiston-Auburn Sun Journal. Auburn School Department Technology Director Peter Robinson said that the success of iPads in primary grades had make them look like the right choice at the time, but they have turned out to be less than ideal for older students …...

A recent IHS Markit analyst note says that lack of awareness of the benefits of smart home technology is holding back growth. The note suggests that Apple is on the right track with its in-store demo stations, where customers can experience for themselves what it’s like to have a HomeKit controlled connected home. Nest CEO and ‘father of the iPod’ Tony Fadell has responded to data privacy concerns expressed after the company was acquired by Google, stating that there have not yet been any changes to the data collected by the smart thermostat and smoke detector, and that any future changes would be both transparent and opt-in. Fadell gave the assurances during an interview at the Digital-Life-Design conference (via TNW).
