We’re less than a month away from the launch of Apple TV+, and new data from Piper Jaffray indicates that Netflix still has a strong hold on the market. According to a survey conducted by the firm, Apple TV+ and Disney+ haven’t yet won over many Netflix subscribers. In a new investor note today, Piper Jaffray stated that its surveys show that roughly 75 percent of Netflix subscribers do not intend to subscribe to either Apple TV+ or Disney+ (via CNBC)....

After months of teasing, Angry Birds Transformers is now available in select parts of the world. Gamers in New Zealand and Finland can now sample Rovio’s mashup of fowl and robots, with Canada and Australia set to follow soon afterwards. In addition to a soft launch for its new title, Rovio released a new gameplay trailer, revealing that this won’t be your typical Angry Birds title. Instead of the standard slingshot-powered shenanigans, Angry Birds Transformers is a 2D side-scrolling shoot ’em up game where feathery Autobirds blast their way through several background enemies, including Deceptihogs....
Update: Apple says all services are restored. Following an outage of many Apple services earlier this week, several of Apple’s iTunes and App Store services are again today experiencing disruptions, according to Apple’s system status page. Apple is currently listing outages for the App Store, Apple TV, iBooks Store, iTunes in the Cloud, iTunes Match, iTunes Radio, iTunes Store, iTunes U, Mac App Store, and OS X Software Update. The company says that only some users are affected and currently “unable to access multiple services and stores or make purchases....
Reports are coming in that a list of App Store and iTunes services are currently down for users. Those affected are prevented from logging into their accounts, downloading and updating apps, or streaming previously purchased content. Apple’s system status as of 05:33 PM EST doesn’t list any services as being out, but tweets directed at Apple’s official support account seem to indicate otherwise. Liam McLoughlin on Twitter has stated that he is running into issues at the time: random messages coming up saying purchases cannot be made at this time, and that he is have trouble logging in....
Apple and Google have removed hundreds of financial trading apps from their app stores following an investigation suggesting that thousands of people may have been scammed – many of them seniors. Some have reportedly lost their entire life savings. The action follows an investigation by a newspaper and a review by a securities & investment body … The Independent reports that its own investigation into scams reported to British police revealed the scale of the problem, which primarily center on so-called ‘binary options’ trading....
The Australian reports that Apple has agreed to a $2.25 million settlement in Australian courts over the advertising of the third-generation iPad as “4G” in Australia. The source of the issue is that a true 4G LTE network is not supported by the third-generation iPad in Australia. Apple has already taken a big step to settle the 4G iPad confusion: the company has renamed the “iPad WiFi + 4G” to “iPad WiFi + Cellular....
A couple of days after Fortune did its roundup of analyst estimates of iPhone sales, it has now done the same for the iPad, with the average forecast coming out at 25M sales in the final quarter of last year (Apple fiscal Q1) – up 10 percent from the previous year. iPads were a more challenging market to forecast, observes Fortune‘s Philip Elmer-Dewitt: The full story of the success of the new iPad Mini in particular will likely not be known until the end of the next quarter....
After a soft launch previously, Angry Birds Evolution, a new turn-based RPG combat game from Rovio, is officially launching in the U.S. and globally today. Apple is gearing up for its first major hardware and software launches of 2014. The 1997 giant snake horror film Anaconda is receiving a new reboot, courtesy of Columbia Pictures. Anaconda was not well received by critics when it came out in April of 1997 and was nominated for six Razzie Awards, including Worst Picture, though it failed to win any of them, and the film currently holds a 40% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. TomTom, one of Apple’s main partners providing data in its new Maps app, could be acquired by Apple, according to report from Netherlands-based Rabobank analyst Hans Slob. Bloomberg covered the analyst’s research report released early today, noting that Slob said there is a 30 percent chance Apple seeks to takeover TomTom in trying to make quicker improvements to its controversial new Maps app: TomTom NV (TOM2), the Dutch supplier of navigation applications for Apple Inc....
Just one day after Apple was questioned by the House Judiciary Committee, another antitrust complaint against Apple has been made – this time by secure messaging app Telegram. The Financial Times reports that Telegram submitted the complaint to the European Union’s competition regulator … Telegram co-founder and CEO Pavel Durov outlined his arguments in a blog post a few days earlier. He suggested that Apple’s defence of its 30% commission is based on seven myths – beginning with Steve Job’s original claim that the 30% commission was to cover the costs of operating the store....
After removing Parler from the App Store back in January, Apple has reportedly decided to allow the app to come back. According to a new report from CNN, Apple has approved Parler’s latest attempt to return to the App Store follow improvements to the moderation system… In January, Apple had given Parler 24 hours’ notice to implement a content moderation system or else face removal from the App Store. The company resisted and therefore the app was removed as Apple had promised....
