The developer behind the massively popular iOS app Apollo for Reddit is once again launching a donation campaign for the SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) shelter in Nova Scotia. All proceeds from Monday’s sales of Apollo for Reddit will benefit the SPCA animal shelter, and there are other ways to donate as well. Update: The Apollo for Reddit SPCA fundraiser brought in over $42,000. This marks the third consecutive year in which Apollo for Reddit developer Christian Selig has run this donation campaign....

Apple has acquired Burstly, the company behind the popular beta testing platform Test Flight, TechCrunch reported (now confirmed by Recode). TestFlight recently pulled its SDK as well as Android support prompting speculation that big changes were on the horizon. Some speculated that an Apple acquisition could behind it all and would make sense considering the fragmented beta testing experience for app developers. While neither company has commented publicly confirming the acquisition, we were pointed to hints of the acquisition just before TechCrunch reported the rumor as likely and later updated its reporting to note that the acquisition had already occurred…...

After a little privacy snafu last month around the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro still tracking location data even when users had turned off location services, Apple has added a toggle specifically for the UWB chip in the latest iOS 13.3.1 beta. KrebsOnSecurity discovered the behavior of the iPhone 11 Pro continuing to track user locations even when all of the available locations services toggles are turned off (except for the master switch)....

Apple released iOS 14.5.1 and other software updates in late April that brought important security fixes to WebKit, which is the engine behind Safari and other web browsers on iOS. However, security researchers point out that there is still an exploit in WebKit that is active even in the latest versions of iOS and macOS. As pointed out by security firm Theori (via ArsTechnica), the vulnerability is related to AudioWorklet, which manages audio output on web pages, and causes Safari to crash....

Apple has acquired a camera sensor startup called InVisage Technologies, TechCrunch reports. InVisage touts its QuantumFilm Image Sensor as specializing in capturing light while using a thinner camera module. Here’s a brief description of the technology InVisage created and Apple now owns: As Apple continues to focus on improving camera quality in iPhones each year, it’s easy to see how Apple could incorporate this technology into their hardware. Apple just issued a press release announcing that its App Store mobile bazaar now carries over half a million apps for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.
