Reuters reports that an investigation has been opened in Italy. That partnership took the form of a global deal which was quickly criticized for threatening the livelihood of small, independent sellers. The Federal Trade Commission opened a US investigation into it last year, with suggestions that ‘it’s basically a price-fixing agreement between a dominant retailer and a brand [which is] illegal under Section 1 of the Sherman Antitrust Act.’ Apple is now facing another antitrust investigation into the same issue in Italy....

Apple and GE (General Electric) today announced a new partnership to build enterprise ‘industrial’ apps for the iOS platform. This includes a new development SDK focused on the Internet of Things. Tim Cook said GE is an “ideal partner with a rich history of innovation”. GE will make apps for itself and its business clients, and deploy iPhones and iPad as standard across the organization. Apple has partnered with several high profile companies to deliver iOS apps for enterprise, as it attempts to penetrate iPad deeper into the enterprise....

A new report on smartphone damage trends offers some interesting details on how many devices were broken in 2018, how much consumers paid to fix them, and how repair costs have increased significantly in the last few years. Insurance provider SquareTrade put out the new report that says US smartphone owners broke over 50 million displays and paid $3.4 billion in repairs. The company believes those broken screens along with failed batteries, touchscreen issues, and scratched screens tallied up to 66% of smartphone owners damaging their devices this year....

The money will be used to build out additional chip manufacturing capacity in the United States. The main casualty of the global chip shortage is carmakers like Ford, but Apple admitted on its last earnings call that supply of some MacBook and iPad models will be affected too.
