Ahead of Apple’s earnings call at the end of the month, new data from Morgan Stanley (via Kif Leswing) today reports that App Store downloads have seen a year-over-year quarterly decline for the first time since 2015. However, the firm does note that App Store revenue has still increased. Apple and IBM today unveiled 10 new enterprise apps across several industries including tools for government inspectors, business travelers and managers, and field service professionals for the first time. A number of users on Apple’s support forums noticed that the latest Airport/Time Capsule 7.6.3 firmware released last week seems to disable IPv6 tunneling on various devices. iPhone 4 prototypes were hidden in iPhone 3GS cases (via Gizmodo) Over the last few days, one of the most talked about topics in the Apple news and rumors community has been Apple’s purported loss of an unreleased iPhone in July of this year. AAPL stock fell more than 12% at the market open yesterday, but the stock made up some of that ground today. AAPL ended today up 4.4%, and while analysts are still worried about the near-term effects of coronavirus, some see a year-end rebound. AAPL is down considerably from its 52-week high of $327.85. With today’s boost, the stock currently closed at around $252.80, but it’s fluctuating in after-hours trading. Even still, it’s up from yesterday’s close of $242....

Market intelligence company TrendForce is predicting that Apple will sell around 227.5M iPhones this year, which would be 5.6% up on last year. This would represent growth above the overall smartphone market, which it expects to increase its sales by 4.8%. The company expects sales of the OLED model to be significant not just for Apple but for the smartphone sector as a whole … While Apple is rarely first to adopt a new technology, it does tend to be the one that drives widespread adoption of new features....

Analyst Dan Ives, from Wedbush Securities, who has an outperform rating on Apple’s stock, said today that he believes Apple’s “biggest strategic mistake” was not acquiring Netflix years ago. In an interview for Yahoo Finance, Dan Ives said that Apple would be in a better position in the current streaming wars if it had bought Netflix. Netflix has 203 million global users, while Disney+ hit 94.9 million subscribers more than a year after its launch last November....

With Apple’s upcoming fiscal Q3 earnings call just around the corner, analysts are predicting the company sold as many as 40 million iPhones during the quarter that ended last month. That’s on the high side of estimates complied by Fortune, however. Estimates from a poll of 26 analysts includes predictions ranging from 31.8 million to almost 40 million units. The average of estimates comes in at 35.88 million. If Apple does report iPhone sales for the quarter somewhere in the neighbourhood of the 35 million average, that would represent an almost 15% increase from last year....

Since the game’s announcement in 2018 and subsequent delay to March 20, 2020, Animal Crossing fans have felt the growing pang of neglect by Nintendo....

Altogether, the lost value totaled $33B, but experts say that there’s little to worry about — and indeed, the announcement could even be considered good news for the companies … The Justice Department didn’t name names, stating that at this stage it is a broad look at tech giants “to understand whether there are antitrust problems that need addressing.” However, given that the terms of the antitrust investigation are to look at the behaviors of “dominant tech firms,” it is clear that Apple is among those companies in the spotlight....

Speculation continues to ramp up around the 2020 iPhone lineup, including the so-called iPhone SE 2 and the iPhone 12. Rosenblatt Securities is out with a new investor note detailing its expectations on those new devices, as well as Apple’s production plans for the iPhone 11 until then. Rosenblatt analyst Jun Zhang says that Apple is in the process of cutting iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max production by as much as 25% for the December and March quarters....

We obviously expect Apple to announce its new iPhone 11 lineup next month, as it has hosted a September iPhone media event every year since 2012. An analyst at Wedbush today reports that his latest checks indicate that all three new iPhone 11 models will also be released in September too, successors to the iPhone XS and iPhone XR lines.
