Apple has bought two seasons of a new TV series that will star Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon. The purchase is part of Apple’s push into owning original content and building out a streaming video service to compete with Netflix and HBO. Both Aniston and Witherspoon will executive produce the series for Apple, The Hollywood Reporter says, and the two season purchase will include 20 episodes to start. The series has yet to be named but the plot is expected to center around the lives of morning TV news stars....

Most would assume that the currently free on-contract iPhone 3GS will discontinue with the introduction of the sixth-generation iPhone later this year, but one analyst claimed its life would go on. According to Jefferies analyst Peter Misek in a note released last night (via Fortune), Apple signed an agreement “with a major global distributor” that will bring the iPhone 3GS to pre-paid carriers and developing countries for an even cheaper price....

Apple today has shared an updated official aerial shot of construction progress on its Campus 2 facility set to be complete by the end of 2016. The new shot, posted to the City of Cupertino’s website, provides a different angle and wider view of the surrounding campus compared to the last aerial photo from earlier this month. Adopting a move out of Google’s 20-percent time playbook, Apple has begun a program titled “Blue Sky” that gives select employees two weeks to work on a project not in their normal realm of responsibilities. Jessica Lessin of the Wall Street Journal shared the news on video (via Business Insider), where she said Apple’s two-week program is not as vast as the program Google offers. Instead, Apple’s program is a select amount of employees that get the free time....
