Following Apple’s revision to its Q1 2019 earnings expectations, Tim Cook will hold an all-hands meeting with employees tomorrow. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the meeting will focus on today’s news with employees given the opportunity to ask questions. Earlier today, Tim Cook published a letter directed towards Apple investors in which he outlined the struggles that faced Apple during Q1 2019, which is the company’s normally monstrous holiday quarter....

Since the launch of the iPhone X on Friday, there have been an abundance of overdubs using one of Apple’s newest features, Animoji. With the facial mapping software that Apple has included in the new iMessage app, people are finding hilarious and creative ways to insert these Animoji into everything from music to movies. When Apple announced Animoji at its September event, some people were skeptical. Now, after three days with this new technology, a new breed of creatives are crawling out of the woodwork (or at least making themselves more apparent)....

Apple today has announced that its App Store Search Ads will be coming to three more countries next week, bringing the total available countries up to seven. In a news update on its developer site, Apple announced that Search Ads will go live in Canada, Mexico, and Switzerland on October 17. These latest countries join the existing Search Ads supported countries of the US, UK, Australia, and New Zealand. This past April Apple also updated Search Ads with new features....

Apple has added some new entries to its App Store Review Guidelines that developers must follow when developing and submitting apps for iOS devices. Among the new additions, Apple is requiring developers to obtain consent from users for health-related human subject research, obtain explicit authorization for downloading music and video from third-party sources, and disclose policies related to Apple Pay… For the new health research guidelines, Apple is likely preparing for the roll out of its just unveiled ResearchKit platform as well as deeper integration of health and fitness data from users with the launch of Apple Watch and new companion apps....

An interesting Reddit discussion popped up about the discovery of the font in both Maps and Siri, check it out: Avenir is completely new to iOS, because it does not appear in Apple’s font list for earlier versions of the mobile operating system. According to Fonts.com, designer Adrian Frutiger first released the sans-serif typeface nearly 25 years ago....

Apple and four other big tech companies between them spent $80B on big-ticket industrial equipment last year – ten times as much as General Motors … Bloomberg reports on the somewhat surprising comparison. Credit Suisse analysts say that it is tech giants, and not traditional industrial companies, which are driving the fastest growth in capital expenditure seen for some years. Checks run by the Washington Post revealed that App Store scam apps make up almost 2% of the top-grossing apps, despite CEO Tim Cook’s insistence that the app review process is effective at rejecting them. Apple today confirmed that iPad 2 will launch in thirteen more countries in the coming days and weeks. China will get WiFi iPad 2 beginning Friday, May 6. Cybersecurity researchers at Pradeo identified the malware, which Google has now removed from its official Android app marketplace. Before its removal, the app, called ‘Color Message’, was downloaded by more than 500,000 Android users. Advertised as an app that allowed users to personalise their default SMS messages, Color Message was a front to deliver Joker, one of the most prolific forms of Android malware.
