Screenplay writer Gary Dauberman returns to the horror scene this year with the release of Annabelle 2, the second installment in the Annabelle series and the fourth installment overall from the hugely successful horror franchise, The Conjuring. With such critical and commercial success lauded onto the films that make up this franchise, Annabelle 2 could be raking in the money when it comes to theaters in a few months’ time.
Whilst the first movie followed the story of John Form and his expectant wife Mia along with their dealings with the devilish Annabelle doll, viewers this time will meet a dollmaker and his wife who welcome a nun and several orphaned girls into their home. Unfortunately for the new arrivals, the dollmaker has been working on a possessed creation which looks to cause more harm than good. David F. Sandberg returns to the director’s chair for the flick following his work on the critically-acclaimed thriller, Lights Out, whilst Toby Emmerich, Walter Hamada, Dave Neustadter, Richard Brener and Hans Ritter all serve as executive producers.
This weekend, ComingSoon exclusively revealed a brand new shot from the horror flick, featuring the infamous doll. Check out the creepy picture in all its glory below:
In the picture we see the Annabelle doll with evil in its eyes sat on the side of a bed, whilst Janice (Talitha Bateman) looks on with fear in her heart. Dark and gloomy, the image showcases the exact tone and mood future viewers should expect when they settle down to watch the upcoming release.
Annabelle 2 looks just about ready to hit the big screen despite still being seven months away, and could deliver yet another intriguing and unique blast of horror to fans of the franchise and genre. Meanwhile, a new Conjuring spinoff is in development called The Nun which will focus on the demonic preacher of Christianity that was featured in The Conjuring 2.
Of course, there’s every chance that Annabelle 2 could begin to turn fans away from the Conjuring franchise. Despite all of the success that’s come before it, the movie still has to prove itself with a solid storyline that falls on the fresh and exciting side of things rather than being given the cliché horror labels of ‘stale’ and ‘done before’. Whether or not director Sandberg has managed to stay away from that curse that plagues horror movie sequels and spin-offs remains to be seen.
