Anthony Mackie reveals that he saw another Captain America shield on the set of WandaVision. Marvel Studios is expanding the MCU this year beyond the movies with a string of TV shows for Disney+. This year, they’re rolling out two projects instead of one, with The Falcon and The Winter Soldier premiering in August, while WandaVision will debut in December.

Given this, production on The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and WandaVision overlap with each other, with both projects primarily filming in Atlanta. Having worked before together on MCU films such as Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, the main actors in the aforementioned shows know each other pretty well, so it’s not unusual for them to exchange pleasantries or even hang out with each other. However, one particular instance when Mackie found himself on the set of WandaVision, he spotted another shield which made him think that the series might also incorporate the iconic Marvel prop.

Speaking with The Daily Beast while promoting the second season of Netflix’s Altered Carbon, Mackie was asked about his training for handling Captain America’s shield in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. However, instead of straightforwardly answering the question, he interestingly revealed that WandaVision and other upcoming Marvel/Disney+ series might also feature their own respective shields.

Seeing another shield on the set of WandaVision obviously raises a lot of questions considering that the series doesn’t seem to incorporate any narrative details that links it to Captain America. Aside from focusing on the relationship between Wanda and Vision, the show is also tipped to finally give fans a sense of just how powerful the Scarlet Witch is. There’s also the involvement of S.W.O.R.D. with adult Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Paris). Granted that the full premise is still being kept under wraps with some details being intentionally hidden, it doesn’t seem like the series still has the real estate to tackle anything indirectly related to its main characters.

The funny thing about the shield training is, I feel like everyone has had shield training. I went by WandaVision, and there was a random shield. I was like, everyone’s getting shield training now!

Given that, how did a shield end up on the WandaVision set as Mackie said? There are a few viable explanations. First, since both shows are under one production company, perhaps the shield was just accidentally left there without any narrative implications. Another possibility is that it might simply there as an Easter egg. Fans know how much Marvel Studios like sneaking small details like this in their projects. The bottom line is, just because Mackie spotted a different shield elsewhere doesn’t necessarily mean that it will be a significant part of that show’s narrative.
