Apex Legends Season 2 will be revealed at E3 during the EA Play conference on June 7, 2019, according to EA CEO Andrew Wilson during the company’s latest earnings call. Apex Legends has been devoid of meaningful content for a while now, with the game’s Season 1 Battle Pass failing to meet fan expectation after a torrid launch period saw the title become one of the hottest properties in the entire industry.

Apex Legends’ growth has slowed down somewhat in the interim between its launch and now, although it still boasts over 50 million players and has brought a slew of new consumers into the EA fold that wouldn’t have otherwise been interested in the publisher’s offerings. As the battle royale genre continues to sit atop the Twitch viewership and concurrent player counts, the troubling lack of Apex Legends content — and the departure of superstars like Shroud — has been something of a concern for fans who want to see the game continue to rise, as it tends to offer mechanical complexity that isn’t available in other iterations of the genre.

Apex Legends Season 2 will be revealed at EA Play, according to Wilson, and will hopefully address content concerns that have been driving the discussion of the game’s future over the past few weeks. According to EA, the publisher is extremely happy with Respawn Entertainment’s game, but acknowledged that the sudden growth after its surprise announcement caused issues for the developer, including the long and grisly battle currently being fought over Apex Legends cheating issues. According to Wilson, however, EA is now focused and giving a lot of support to Respawn:

There’s a few takeaways worth nothing from that statement. For one, it appears EA and Respawn are well aware of the current perception of Apex Legends Battle Pass content, and that Season 2 will address that by offering more of it within the same timeframe. Wilson also mentions “evolutions” to the game’s environment, which seems to indicate a decision to head in the direction of the way Fortnite’s map continues to change with each of its seasons, with the most recent one unleashing volcanic fury upon the game’s world.

“We’re now very focused on delivering for this massive global community with a long-term live service, including new seasons with more robust Battle Pass content, new legends, and exciting evolutions to the in-game environment.”

It’s an exciting time for Apex Legends Season 2 content, but it’s also fair to consider how EA and Respawn plan to up the amount of content released each season. With industry discussion about developer crunch reaching an all-time high, the company will have to find a way to churn out more Apex Legends Season 2 updates without pushing its staff into the unhealthy work environments that have made headlines over recent months.
