Apple has added Passbook functionality to its app for the iTunes Festival London 2013 app. Additionally, today’s update brings support for image viewing in an iOS device’s landscape orientation. The app was updated late last month to list the line-up of artists for the September Apple-run music festival. Apple announced this year’s festival last week, noting that artists such as Jack Johnson, Justin Timberlake, and Thirty Seconds to Mars would highlight the events....

iOS 14 was announced with some great new features for iMessage, including more options for group conversations, inline replies, and more. However, there’s also an important change in iMessage that Apple hasn’t mentioned so far. The company has adopted a new security system called “BlastDoor,” which is basically a sandbox mode that protects the Messages app from the rest of iOS. As reported by ZDNet, this new security feature of iOS 14 was discovered by Samuel Groß, a security researcher working with Google’s Project Zero....

Earlier this year AOL announced it would no longer be supporting iCloud email accounts with its Alto webmail service after December 2nd. Today, however, the Alto team informed users it had reversed that decision and apologized for the confusion of its decision. Amid continued tension between the United States and China, a new report from The Information details how Apple could be impacted by Chinese retaliation. Apple also continues to face pushback from Chinese regulators in regards to the App Store. In the United States, the Trump Administration is threatening action against Chinese-owned TikTok and WeChat due to national security concerns. Because of this, the report explains that there is a “growing risk of a tit-for-tat” response on United States businesses in China....

As noted by MacStories, Apple will be adding a new Food and Drink category to the iTunes App Store. According to Apple’s email to select developers, the new category will go live in “the next few weeks.” The new app section will cover a slew of food related apps, but not shopping, dieting, or food-related games. Restaurant and bar finding apps, recipe apps, cooking and baking apps will be supported, though, per Apple’s email....

A software update for the iPhone will enable the feature, but users will also need to use a third-party app. Apple announced that Stripe will be the first payment platform to work with Tap to Pay for iPhone through the Shopify Point of Sale app this spring. Apple also noted that other payment processors and apps will follow later this year. To be clear, Tap to Pay for iPhone isn’t limited to only accepting payments from other iPhone users....

Although Apple says that they will begin selling unlocked, contract-free iPhone 4S units in the United States in November, we have learned otherwise. Select Apple Stores in the United States have begun selling contract-free versions of the iPhone 4S, which our friend Steven Troughton-Smith was able to both verify and purchase. Users can activate the contract-free iPhone 4S by simply plugging the device into iTunes. Once plugged in, the above iPhone 4S unlocked popup will appear....

The Wall Street Journal reports Apple has confirmed it has made an acquisition of artificial intelligence startup Emotient. The cloud-based technology developed by Emotient uses artificial intelligence to detect emotion by analyzing facial expressions. The company’s website is still live following the news and describes the tech as ‘the leader in emotion detection and sentiment analysis based on facial expressions. The company is at the vanguard of a new wave of emotion analysis that will lead to a quantum leap in customer understanding and emotion-aware computing....

The problems with Anthem on PlayStation 4 are so severe that Sony has started honoring refund requests of players having issues with the game. Anthem is the ambitious looter shooter by BioWare that was initially a hyped release, but since launch, the title has been plagued with numerous problems.
