Apple is again said to make a visit to the White House in the coming weeks. According to a new report from Recode, Apple is among a handful of companies who will meet with White House officials next week to discuss modernization, big data, and high-skilled immigration… The report explains that the meeting will include Apple, Google, Facebook, and other tech companies. It falls under the blanket under of the new American Technology Council, which is an effort initiated by President Trump to modernize government and citizen services and being led by Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner....

Apple has expanded its list of HomeKit categories with a new entry: AirPlay 2 receivers. We’ve seen upcoming and currently available AirPlay 2 speakers including HomePod, Sonos, and Libratone on Apple’s HomeKit accessory list since Apple’s wireless audio streaming solution debuted earlier this year. The addition of AirPlay 2 receivers adds a new way to control audio with HomeKit, and receiver maker Denon is owning the category for now. Following a new drone flyover of Apple’s under construction Campus 2 over the weekend, Apple and the City of Cupertino today shared an official updated aerial shot of the site showing the latest progress on the project. Apple appears to have made a lot of progress on the building’s foundation and earthwork for the surrounding campus since last checking in with official aerial imagery. Construction on the new building, which is set to house 12,000 staff by its estimated 2016 completion date, is currently in the earthwork/building construction phase that kicked off in the second quarter of 2014 earlier this year....

Update: Bloomberg has updated its story to say that Disney and Apple are actually NOT in talks to bring the WatchESPN service to the Apple TV. According to a report from Bloomberg, which cites ESPN executive Sean Bratches, Apple is currently in talks with Walt Disney’s ESPN network to bring the WatchESPN app, currently available for iPhone and iPad and recently opened up to Comcast customers, to Apple TV: “We’re not having conversations with Apple about authenticating WatchESPN,” Phillips said....

Dark Mode hit the mainstream for iPhone with official iOS 13 support back in 2019, but there are still apps that haven’t adopted the system-wide feature. Now Amex has officially launched dark theme support with its latest update and says that it’s the first card issuer to make the jump, even though it’s almost two years late. The new Dark Mode option for the Amex iOS app is a dark blue hue – called “midnight blue” – and should certainly make it more comfortable for users to manage their accounts in low light....

Although the spaceship site is cordoned off by high walls to prevent pictures at street level, a GoPro-equipped drone has no trouble getting the aerial shots seen in the video. Images of the campus were last seen in July… In that time, the video shows that the project has made significant progress, with it looking less like dirt and more like the foundation of buildings....
